WELLSITE GEOLOGY AND
BIOSTRATIGRAPHY
CAL wellsite
professionals (Geologists and Biostratigraphers)
are well trained and equipped to proffer
solutions to geological problems during
drilling.
The geologist
is basically responsible for the acquisition of
complete and accurate geologic and formation
evaluation data, as well as to provide drilling
personnel with any information needed to ensure
safe and efficient drilling operations.
The wellsite Biostratigrapher
specializes in the use of
“Real-Time”
analysis of calcareous nannofossils,
foraminifera and Pollen & spores to provide real
time stratigraphic monitoring. The
Biostratigrapher assist drilling operations
through:
|
· Straightforward
age monitoring of wells where
stratigraphy is uncertain.
· “Counting
down” to reservoir intervals and testing
seismic prognosis
· Correct
stratigraphic positioning of casing
points in areas of high pressure (common
in the Niger Delta) and areas with H2S
gas etc.
· Coring
point selection.
· Confirmation
of Total Depth (TD) where there is
commitment to drill to deposits of
specific age.
· Horizontal
geosteering/biosteering where well bores
are highly deviated in target of a pay
zone.

Our ability to achieve
refined results has been based on our
ability to subdivide the well sequences
into easily recognizable dated
biostratigraphic units based on zones
shown in the preceding table.
Our
service in this field has assisted in
timely and precise decisions at the
drilling sites thereby saving a lot of
time and making cost efficient decisions
by avoiding “redrills” |

HOT SHOT SAMPLE ANALYSIS
CAL offers
biostratigraphic analysis on “flown in”
hotshot samples from drilling sites and
delivers the result in not later than 12
– 24 hours after arrival in our office.
Alternatively our standby experts can
provide faster results as may be
required by our clients. |

HIGH RESOLUTION
BIOSTRATIGRAPHY AND SEQUENCE
STRATIGRAPHIC STUDIES |
|
Crystal Age Limited offer
high resolution biostratigraphic
analysis using the three major fossil
groups – Nannofossils, Foraminifera and
Palynomorphs. This is carried out at our
Laboratory facility located in Ikorodu. |
|
 |
| |
|
|
|
Our expertise is aided by
the development of in-house biozonation
schemes by our team of professionals.
This is carried out by using both
classical zonal indices, local (basin
wide) tops and bases, local acme events
and slight changes in assemblage
characteristics. This permits refinement
at levels previously unimagined, making
accurate ties of local sequences to
regional and global bio- and
chronostratigraphic schemes possible,
thus greatly enhancing correlation. |
|
 |
|
|
|
|
|
With this expertise,
precise correlation of reservoirs both
within a field/basin are easily achieved
through zonal and age refinements with
the provision of the required high
resolution biostratigraphy needed in
sequence stratigraphic studies.
